About Bushnell R7 Binoculars

The Bushnell R7 range is designed for demanding nature observation, hunting and long-distance viewing. Five configurations — 8x42, 10x42, 10x50, 12x50 and 15x56 — let you choose the right balance of field of view, brightness, reach and weight.

R7 models use ED Prime glass, BaK-4 prisms with PC-3 phase correction and anti-reflection coatings. Their magnesium chassis, EXO Barrier protection and IPX7 waterproofing are built for regular field use. The 8x42, 10x42, 10x50 and 12x50 models also feature Field Flattener technology for improved edge sharpness.

Optics and protection for outdoor use

ED Prime glass helps control colour fringing in high-contrast scenes. BaK-4 prisms with phase correction preserve detail and contrast, while EXO Barrier repels water, oil, dust and debris. IPX7 protection covers accidental immersion to one metre for 30 minutes.

The central focus wheel, dioptre adjustment and twist-up eyecups suit different users, with or without glasses. A tripod or stable support is recommended for extended viewing at 12x and 15x.

Which Bushnell R7 should I choose?

Choose 8x42 for a wide, steady view; 10x42 for versatility; 10x50 for low light; 12x50 for open country; and 15x56 for very long distances, ideally on a tripod.

What is the difference between the R7 8x42 and 10x42?

Both weigh about 770 g. The 8x42 has a wider 142 m field and is steadier handheld; the 10x42 provides more detail at distance with a 115 m field.

Is the R7 10x50 better than the 10x42 in low light?

Yes. Its 50 mm objectives and 5 mm exit pupil gather more usable light, but at about 927 g it is heavier than the 10x42.

Can the R7 12x50 and 15x56 be used handheld?

The 12x50 can be handheld briefly, though support improves precision. The heavier 15x56 is primarily intended for tripod use.

Why is the Bushnell R7 range considered premium?

It combines ED Prime glass, advanced coatings, magnesium construction, IPX7 waterproofing and EXO Barrier. Most models also use Field Flattener optics; the 15x56 uses Abbe-König prisms.
