Bushnell Legend L-Series 10x42 binoculars: review and comparison

Following our review of the Bushnell Legend E-Series 10x42, we compare it with the Legend L-Series 10x42. The two share a similar outward design, magnesium construction, RainGuard HD protection and the same 10x42 format.

The key optical difference is ED Prime glass. This helps reduce colour fringing and makes the L-Series worth considering for more demanding observation.

Legend E or Legend L: what changes?

ED stands for extra-low dispersion. Its main benefit is controlling chromatic aberration: the coloured fringes that can appear around contrasting edges. This is particularly useful when observing a dark subject against bright sky.

Handling

Comparing the view

The original French review reports observations of herons more than 300 m away, birds of prey over the Monts d'Arrée, boats off Saint-Malo and roe deer at woodland edges.

In that comparison, the L-Series was judged to show cleaner outlines, more distinct fine detail and stronger contrast. ED Prime glass helps reduce purple or green fringes around dark subjects against a bright background.

Viewing as daylight fades

The French comparison describes observation around half an hour before nightfall. It reports that the L-Series retained more subtle contrast, helping animals stand out from their surroundings and making plumage details easier to distinguish.

RainGuard HD protection
